We bought two gates, one for the top and bottom of our stairs. Not only do they look good (we receive lots of compliments on them, not something I expected about baby gates!), but they are strong, solid, and good quality. They installed fairly easily in the two places, including at the extra wide top of the stairs (too wide for two other types of gates we tried), using the pressure holds. I have no worries about our kids pulling them down, they are very secure. The latches work well and will be impossible for my small kids to open, even if they can figure out how to do so. The hinges are made so that little fingers can't get pinched, and the gates open conveniently to either side. I wouldn't have bought any other type of gate, these are worth the money.

I'm a technician by trade and pretty handy with mechanical items. The instructions that come with this gate are worthless. I stopped trying to figure the instructions out, and just winged it. It's a bit of puzzle, but now that it's up (took me 1.5 hours) we like it. Looks great and keeps the dog where we want him.
If your not good with your hands and understanding technical issues, I'd go with something else.

I bought 2 different gates for my staircase to see which worked better and by far this one is the winner!

This gate is tall enough to keep large dogs at bay as well as my 2 year old! And, this gate is easy to operate with one hand, swings in either direction, and the opening is wide enough to manuver unlike other gates. I love this gate so much that I have ordered another one to replace the competitor brand which opening is far too narrow to manuver alone, let alone with a toddler in your arms.

The only improvement would be to include hardware mounting option. Since it is a compresion gate, mounting it at the bottom of my stairs between the wall and stair banister, was pushing the banister, thereby needing adjustment which in turn pushed my banister even more. Will have to replace with a hardware mounted gate and move this one to the top of the stairs.

But overall this gate is awesome! Perfect height, easy to install and use, and wide enough to walk through!
