I purchased this drive to use as a boot drive in a desktop where I wanted the performance of a 7200RPM drive but lower power consumption and space requirements compared to 3.5" drives. As you can see the performance is great, and the drive runs cool to the touch. Just know that it is an Advance Format drive, so if you are running XP off of it you will need to plan accordingly. Advanced format drives are supported on modern Linux distros without needing any adjustments.

I brought this drive to put inside a Macally Hi-Speed FireWire/USB 2.0 Storage Enclosure (PHR-S250UAB) enclosure.

The reason for this is I wanted an external drive for my Mac but did not want any of the crap proprietary (not removable) backup software on the drive that usually comes with external drives. The other advantage is it gave me some connection options (firewire 800, 400 and USB) and some future-proofing as I will probably swap the drives out for larger ones in a year or two and can just use a bare drive in the same enclosure.

The drive has been rock solid since I put it in, so much so that I brought a second one.

Would I use this for a laptop? - probably not just because I would go for a SSD now. However for use as a large capacity external drive it fits the bill quite nicely.
