Great and does what it says it does.

Just one note, be careful: there are a lot of knockoffs of this out there on Amazon.

I can confirm this is the REAL Apple Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and it works flawlessly with my 2011 13" Macbook Pro connecting to a Samsung monitor.


Though I have to say, for a simple converter it is a bit expensive. But it works as advertised.

If you have a current model laptop, the adapter is OK to use to get to DVI port on another device. That's what it's made for. The DataPort is a MALE connector.

If you are buying this to connect up a new Cinema Display to a Mac Pro, this adapter is not going to work.

The newest Apple Cinema displays (the now come with a mini DataPort male connector or a Thunderbolt male connector on the display. There is no DVI or VGA connector at all.

There are several passive connectors available, but they aren't built well and don't work properly (you won't get the high resolution that these displays are capable of). There are some $150-$200 USB powered adapter that may work better, but that's more expensive than buying a new graphics card, so why bother?

For Mac Pro's with only DVI graphics cards, the best solution is to buy a second graphics card that has that DataPort (female) on it ($100 - $150 with 512 MB of memory).

I'm posting this, because I wasted a week with Apple's support team, who really didn't seem to care that my 3 year old Mac Pro was not able to connect up to a their newer monitors, which are expensive. Plus, I wanted an all Apple hardware solution, so the new graphics card was something I didn't think of, at first. The Mac Pro has two PCIe (16x) slots and they normally only use one of the slots for a graphics card.
